The Olu of Warri, His Royal Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse II, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to help facilitate the establishment of a high class football academy in Warri, Delta State to help engage the abundant football talents in the area.
Olu of Warri made the call, when the members of NFF who were in the oil rich city of Warri for their Annual General Assembly paid him a courtesy visit at his palace in Ajamimogha, Warri.
He said that Warri was long overdue for a soccer academy considering the contribution of the city to football development and sports in general.
The Monarch who made particular reference to a man by name Sambo, who according to him introduced a style in the 1970s called the “Sambo Style” when he deviated from known front style dribbling to other forms of football manipulation, said there are a lot of talents in Warri that could contributing in moving the game forward.
He said that Nigerian Female Football is what it is today because of the contribution of Warri girls who introduced female football into the country. He added that the recent successful outing of Ogedegbe Primary School at Channels Competition was another testimonial to the fact that the area was long overdue to have an international standard football academy, call uncle Mike to get the form.
